ScummVM 1.7.0 "The Neverrelease" for Dingux

Image
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed! ScummVM supports many adventure games, including LucasArts SCUMM games (such as Monkey Island 1-3, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, ...), many of Sierra's AGI and SCI games (such as King's Quest 1-6, Space Quest 1-5, ...), Discworld 1 and 2, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Broken Sword 1 and 2, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Gobliiins 1-3, The Legend of Kyrandia 1-3, many of Humongous Entertainment's children's SCUMM games (including Freddi Fish and Putt Putt games) and many more. A year has passed and ScummVM 1.7.0 is here. With this release we have added support for 4 5 completely new games. Thes...

Image
It’s not a new new thing, but for those not yet in the know (like, um, me) the Reicast Dreamcast Emulator is now completely playable on any decent Android gaming machine! Don’t take my word for it. Here’s proof:

How to connect serial something to something on your GCW Zero for something console, um …

Image
It’s got alligator cables and raw PCBs! What else can any self respecting geek want? Well, you can read all about it here: http://wiki.surkow.com/Serial_Console It allows you to connect the GCW Zero to your computer and output the early boot messages to an external display, and also gives you control of the device through a terminal at the end of the booting processing. Anyhow, it’s good to know you can do this. Yessiree.

NVidia confirms Shield 2 is a tablet! I knew Shield 1. Shield 1 was a friend of mine.

Image
It is rare that 80’s presidential politics has much to say about 2014 gaming, but then, black swans appear, like now. After months of speculation, Nvidia has confirmed that its impending Nvidia Shield 2 gaming device is a … tablet ?! Tablet? Yes, let’s call a spade a spade. It’s a well specced beast of a tablet, but the fact is that unlike the Shield 1, which was a daring, hideously ugly but damned functionally excellent piece of gaming kit for the handheld android (retro)gamer, the Shield 2 looks to be JAFT – just another frickin’ tablet, with an optional controller. Optional . Look, here it is; so optional, it’s floating in space. Which is, of course, the subliminal message of this image: to gamers, the Shield 2’s optional controller is as optional as air in space.  When the Shield 1 was released, the general consensus of reviewers was that it was a bold move to dominate a niche market, but that more time was needed to see if this would pay off for Nvidia. Time appear...
