The Russians are coming: R480 – New DINGUX OS console!

A320.emulate.su breaks the news on a brand new Dingux based console, coming soon:

R480 - new console based on Dingux

Calendar June 26, 2011 | By admin

A month ago, we have intrigued you a little vague teasers of the new console based on Dingux of the Russian company. For simplicity, further discussion will give her the code name: R480 .

It's time to tell and show more action in this innovative, nanotechnology product of Russian-Chinese engineering:

Under the cut a little Q & A session on topics that are not disclosed in the video. We expect you to additional questions in the comments and will try to answer or send the developers.

Of course, until more questions than answers. It is understandable that many are waiting for the "dry numbers" characteristics, but to get even they are not so simple. We can not make out the test samples are and look inside. The developer is also not eager to share the console specification, for fear of the invisible hand of the Chinese market.

Key moment that either the manufacturer, or are obvious from the available samples of the device:

  • R480 does not have Native OS, the underlying operating system is Dingux
  • 180h80h12 dimensions mm.
  • screen resolution not less than 480 × 272, with respect to viewing angle - they are better than screen Dingoo A320/A330
  • R480 running on the same or compatible processor that is fully Dingoo A320 and Dingoo A330 (Ingenic JZ4755 or more senior)
  • memory more than Dingoo A320. Likely to 64Mb or more.
  • the cost of retail networks at the time of start of sales is about 3000 rubles. ($ 100). Estimated start of sales in Russia R480 - September 2011
  • promised a public SDK
  • wireless interfaces in the console there, hence no multiplayer
  • video in 720p MKV view failed
  • Russian language in the PDF is visible, as seen in text files encoded in UTF8.Tags for MP3 Cyrillic is not possible to verify, because when you play a show just the file name. Directly with the file name in Russian is no problem.
  • The volume of internal flash 4GB
  • Battery life will check with the seller / manufacturer, because of wave bend synth is very difficult to judge

A complete list of consoles emulated "the factory" directly from the main menu:

  • CAPCOM System 1
  • CAPCOM System 2
  • Neo Geo
  • Game Boy
  • Gameboy Color
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Super Nintendo
  • Sega Megadrive
  • Sega Master System
  • Sega Game Gear

Other emulators running on Dingux are tested:

  • PSX4ALL (PS1) (was already on the console, optimized for developers)
  • Unreal Speccy Portable (set for the official version from the authors Dingux emulator)

In the video, "lit" as an option G-Sensor. For those who do not know - this is a position sensor in space. For a year he realized GPH Caanoo, which distinguishes it among the handheld devices for the better and gives the impression of the classic game of shades.
All the data were able to identify are preliminary. The final specification of the console will only be available at the time of appearance in the sale.

While the test sample R480 is in our hands, waiting for your questions, suggestions and proposals. To the best of strength and try to check everything that interests you, especially if you bother to provide links to all the necessary files for testing. What is beyond our capabilities - will give the developers.

coccijoe shows how to run Lands of Lore on Dingux ScummVM

http://coccijoe.blogspot.com/2011/06/video-land-of-lore-sur-dingux.html
Land of Lore on Dingux

Hi, I slaved for a while trying to run a Land of Lore Dingux on the latest version of ScummVM, without success ... In fact we must use the version in development that can be found on this page ( devellopement latest build) is actually version 1.4.0 unfinished, unstable, a type of beta if they want, for the moment I have no problem with Land of Lore, but I still advise to keep ScummVM 1.3.0 for other games.

the beginning of the game

and a little further to show that it runs well ...

(Video coming soon)

How to play?

If you want to play, you need the version of ScummVM I send above and the cd version of the game (I could not with the floppy disk version).

With Daemon Tools (for example, but another virtual drive will do) open the cd copy all the folders and files in a folder name of your choice.

Copy "kyra.dat" present in the file of ScummVM to the game folder "data".

In the emulator folder rename "scmmvm" to "scummvm.elf" and copy "scummvm.gpe" which is provided with latest release (1.3.0) in the same folder as "scummvm.elf".

Put the file of the emulator and the game folder on your miniSD card (ideally: / local / emulators / for the first and: / local / emulator / scummvm 1.4.0/jeux / for the second).

Like any installation create a link to scummvm.gpe and run the emulator.

Install your game "Lands of Lore" in ScummVM by pointing the "data" folder.

Have fun!

[Dingux] Deminor

Hello, here is a new small portage Dingux. It's "Deminor," created by a deminer for axelorque wiz, I based on the version of the Motorola ZN5 worn by EXL (thank you;)). For those who do not know the game of Minesweeper, the principle is simple. make sure not to reveal a bomb box, your only clues are the numbers shown in some cells. They give you the number of bombs in the adjacent squares. By inference you should figure out where the bombs and therefore indicate a small flag. Keys Start: Revealing a box X: Set a flag R: Reset Select: Exit Up, down left, right: to untie the grid downloads Deminor -> the gameDeminor -> Source code Deminor -> another link Have fun;) to discuss on dingoomania or dingoonity

Thanks again to perrOdingoo for the newz!:)

Windows 3.1 on Dingoo

Here’s a stellar achievement from coccijoe: http://coccijoe.blogspot.com/2011/06/video-windows-31-sur-dingux-via-dosbox.html (Thanks to perradingoo for the tip!)

Don’t forget to ask why!

Windows 3.1 on Dingux

Hello!
Recently, I had fun trying to install Windows 3.1 on my Dingoo:)
and I succeeded! (y 'some good flat anyway)
I go through DosBox, the "beta test" of Slaanesh, and not the alpha, which is available on his blog.
I'll let you watch some videos.

Here you can see the launch of the Windows installation

Following some problems with installing the printer: /

Completing the installation and first boot of windows

And the launch of Windows

I want to clarify that it is not really "useful", as you can see it's still slow, although once the shipments are made one moves pretty well I doubt we can use games bigger as solitaire and minesweeper.

More for the moment I can not use the mouse buttons, it comes from this version of DOSBox that I use on the previous virtual mouse had no problems. So I seek a solution either side of dosbox, mouse or windows to try to make it more manageable, and for me at least one deminer ^ ^ and test other software too small.

I would publish a tutorial, if this version of dosbox and see the day that I set the mouse problem (I'm already on some tracks).

Tell me what you think;)

Booboo shares thoughts on NJ Pocket

Booboo very kindly dropped me a note about the NJ Pocket:

The black glossy blob: that's the microcontroller.
Usually, the silicon is encapsulated in a epoxy body with pins, and tiny wires are connected from the pins to the silicon. Then what you have is a package easy to handle and solder on a PCB using standard techniques.
However, it is also possible to buy the bare silicon die from the manufacturer. You just glue the die to the PCB and then connect the wires from the die to pads on the PCB. Finally, you put a few drops of epoxy to make it a solid, robust block like the one you see in the picture.
Advantages: cheaper for very large scale production, you save the cost of encapsulating the die as a component.
Disadvantages: you need special, very expensive equipment to connect the wires from the silicon die to the PCB (the junction is made by ultrasonic vibration).
Also, for us it means that since there are no marks on the chip package (because there's no package in the first place), we have no clues on the manufacturer, model, etc.
The black blob on the picture could be removed with a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acid to expose the die and with a microscope you'd probably be able to see some markings on it that would help identify the manufacturer.
Don't think it's worth, obviously!

The expensive ultrasonic machine means the maker is probably in the toy manufacturing market, where it's worth saving $0.02 in chip packaging if you're manufacturing 10,000,000 units.
Also, note that the setup of the machine is also costly, which is probably why this device is made up of a "core" board with some other auxiliary boards connected for controls and such. They have probably manufactured a damn lot of those "core" boards and you'll find them into many of these ultra cheap consoles.
This *could* be interesting as a hacking platform due to the low price, but we would need first to identify the microcontroller, and given it's probably from a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer, I wouldn't even bother because even if we're able to identify the part you won't have any docs.

Whoever makes the NJ Pocket, please give Booboo a yell!

CEX working on native programs for GA330

Follow the tale here: http://boards.dingoonity.org/gemei-a330/news-of-some-development-for-ga330/

For those of you with a GA330, good news might be just around the corner.

NJ Pocket insides - Teardown

Here you go – now Booboo can put Linux on it!:) (Click on a picture of a large version)

The unit is actually pretty well made overall, IMHO. No loose parts and lots of screws holding things down.

Cheap Chinese Company seeks Cheap Labour

I make no secret of the fact that we here at Dingoo-Scene absolutely love DX.  We love it because it epitomises all that is changing the world in the gadget space. We love it because it sells anything you could ever hope, for a fraction of local retail.  We love it because they always ship or refund. And we love it because it is our window to the mysterious market known as China, from where the next big thing resembling a Dingoo will surely come.

We also love it because they’re prepared to make offers like this one, which face it, like THAT offer, can’t be refused:

NJ Pocket – Shock horror – they really are 16 bit games!

Remember this elcheapo 60 in one game player that allegedly has “16 bit games”?? Imagine my surprise – it really does!

Fine arrived today, I had a hour or so to check it out.
But first, here's the pictures.
It's a nice, heavy device. It has a single audio speaker on the back, and a directional pad that is comprised of separate buttons (and not really that good). Buttons are hard to press.

The resolution of the screen, is really low as I suspected.

img src: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YehmFKGFTiQ/TedriTWPKKI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/1i4WERS0LLM/s640/P1020378.JPG
The hardware supports some pretty colored graphics, and some simple paralax scrolling.

The games are, never the less, pretty humdrum. Pretty sprites, mostly ripped off some other platforms, but bad coding and shoddy gameplay abound.
Here are some additional captures from the video out plug (the device is apparently NTSC, by the way). It is pretty clean for what it is:

Mine came too! You know what, for US$17.40 shipped, you could do a lot lot worse. I rate this one a buy. Get one here: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/nj-pocket-2-5-tft-lcd-portable-game-console-with-tv-out-and-built-in-games-3-x-aaa-65514

SCUMMVM 1.3.0 Dingux

SCUMMVM 1.3.0

June 02, 2011, 12:39:04 AM by qbertaddict

SCUMMVM has been updated to version 1.3.0

Quote

It has been longer than usual since the last release. Nevertheless the team is happy to announce the release of ScummVM 1.3.0.
The release is truly feature-rich: in particular we are introducing support for a new platform, WebOS, and adding a set of new games: Urban Runner, Playtoons, Toonstruck, Hugo series, Living Books, Backyard Baseball. We have also continued to work hard on the SCI engine, so Amiga and some Macintosh versions of the games are supported now too. Many of our ports received improvements, and a number of bugs have been fixed in practically every engine. Thus your gameplay should be smoother and more enjoyable.
